The Village Gardner

*Episode 29*

I and Anabel settled down inside my room. She helped me to removed my shirt she wanted to remove the trouser but i told her not to worry that i will do that to myself. She remove the singlet that i wore and take them to the bathroom to wash.

Minutes later, after washing the blood stain shirt and the singlet. She went into the kitchen and made jollof rice for us. We ate together silently. After eaten, she wanted to help me and bath. Aaah this girl self.(wetin she won see self). I refused and told her i will bath by myself. She pleaded again to help me that i’m hurt., but i still refused.

She stayed with me for another 30 minutes before she said.

ANABEL; Tobe, i want to go to my apartment to shower and catch some nap. I will see you later.

ME; Alright, thanks for the food and everything you did to me.

ANABEL; You are welcome once again i’m sorry for what James did to you. Please don’t fight him again to avoid more injury. That guy is crazy.

ME; Hmmm, please don’t remind me of that again before i will do something crazy. Is he not your boyfriend?. Look at who you called your boyfriend, a mad man with no brain.

ANABEL; *silent*

ME; No problem. I have heard you.

ANABEL; Thanks.

ME; That guy doesn't deserve you. You are a beautiful lady and you deserve guys that will respect and cherish you. Not that James of a boy, that smooker look at how he nearly embrass you at the public. Every woman needs respect from there guy but James own is vice-versa. Sorry to say this, I hate him now. If i may ask, do you love him or you are just keeping him for boyfriend sake?.(i asked her)

ANABEL; Tobe, i loved him before but with this his action, i’m afraid my relationship with him will have to go on a brake. James is always like this. I have given him more time to change. But he doesn’t wanna change. Don’t worry i know what to do.

ME; Hmmmm.

ANABEL; I have to go now, see you later and please take care of yourself for me please.

I nodded. She came closer to me and gave me a soft kiss on my lips, it lasted for like 5 seconds before she broke free from the kiss. I was very shocked and surprised at same time. I was looking at her.(mouth open) what did she just did?. I asked myself, she smiled at me and left the room without any other word. I was still thinking on what just happened. I couldn’t get an answer, then

I removed my trouser that i wore remaining only pant. I took my towel and left for the bathroom for a shower. The bath lasted for like 20 minutes. The bandage was still tying on my shoulder, after the shower i wore only the towel and came out from the bathroom. I went back inside my room. I looked up and saw no other person but Isabella laying on my bed, probably waiting for me. I was afraid to face her, coz she like asking questions which i’m not ready to answer. How long has she been here. When did she come in?(i was asking myself) I summon the courage to face her on whatever question she would ask. *heartbeating* I went closer to the bed and said.

ME; Hi Isabella, you are here.

ISABELLA; Yea i came in 15 minutes ago. You were bathing, so i decided to wait for you.

ME; Okay thanks. Eerm eerm. How are you.

ISABELLA; I’m not fine. Anabel had told me everything that happened to you. I’m sorry baby.

ME; *Surprised* What did she told you?.

ISABELLA; She said that some armed robber came into the restaurant and robbed when you guys were together but unfortunately you were among the people that were attacked and one of the robbers got you injured by stabbing you..Thank God that they didn’t kill you for me.

(Eeeeh, so Anabell can lie like this. Nawao, so James was the armed robber now abi or is she ashamed to tell her that i had another fight with her boyfriend. Anyway is good sha coz i don’t know how i would have tell her by myself. Bad girl).

ME; Yes o. They attacked us. But i was one of the victims that got hurt. But i’m getting better, thank you.

ISABELLA; Yea, but what were you guys doing at the restaurant together?. I called your line so many times, but you didn’t pick…

(What am i going to tell her. What i was doing with Anabel at the restaurant na.)

ME; I was strolling down to the restaurant to have some food coz i was hungry when i saw Anabel driving. She stopped and asked me were i was going. I told her, then she said lets go together coz she was hungry too. That was how we got to the restaurant. (i said with confident.)

ISABELLA; Hmmm, so Anabel have finally change for good. No more fighting between you guys. Well that is good shaa, but i’m still surprise for her sudden change on you.

ME; Me too. I’m surprise o.

ISABELLA; I missed you Tobe. *she stood up from the bed and came closer to me.

ME; I missed you too.

I was still with the towel. She was staring at my body, the next thing was her lips locked up with mine. I was lost coz i didn’t expect that to happen. Her hand was all over my body. We kissed for some minutes before she pushed me on the bed. The towel that i wore made way for my angry erected D--k. She saw it and smile. Next thing she did was she went to the door and locked it very well. She came back smiling.

*Episode 28*

Two guys from the restaurant came and help me to Anabel’s car. The white shirt that i wore instantly turn to red because of the much blood that was oozing out from the wound. The pain was much. All i could do was to moan in pain.
Anabel drove as fast as she could to a near by chemist for the treatment. Dear is okay, you will be fine. I’m taking you to a nearby chemist were they will help us treat the would. I pray the wound won’t be deep.*she said to me* She help me inside the chemist.
Immediately we got inside, without wasting much time, she explain what happened to me to the person. They started the treatment.
I was just enduring the pain all alone. Anabel was giving me the eyes of, i’m sorry..
45 minutes later. They were done with the treatment.
Sister are you through with the treatment.(Anabel asked the young lady that attended to me).
LADY; Yes, i’m almost through. Thank God that the wound wasn’t that deep as i thought earlier, otherwise it would had been worst.
She gave me some medication and instructed me on how to use it.
How much is your money. I asked for the first time since i came in.
#3,500. she replied.
I was only holding 3,000 naira. So i wanted to give her the money when Anabel brought out 4,000 naira from her purse and gave the lady. She asked her to keep the change (for her mind, big girl things).
She lead me inside the car again and we zoomed off again. *silently*.
After a long silent more than 20 minutes, she stopped the car away from the main road.
ME; *surprised* why did you stop the car.
ANABELL; Eerm Tobe.
ME; Yes, what is that. Why stopped the car?.
ANABEL; I’m very sorry for what James did to you. I apologise for everything that happened today. Thank you for standing by my side. I’m speechless on what to say. Thank you.
ME; Hmmmm.
She held my left shoulder, the particular place that i was stabbed. I couldn’t help but shouted in pain.
ME; Aaaaaaaaaarh. Anabel you have wound me.
ANABEL; (she removed her hand) Ooh, i’m sorry dear. I never knew that it was that place that you were hurt. Is it paining you?.
ME; (No in dey sweet me). Before nko. You don’t know that it’s hurt. *frown face*.
ANABELL; I’m sorry. *staring at me*
ME; Please stop staring at me and start the car. I want to go home and rest. I had suffered enough today.
She paid deaf ear and was still staring at me which made me uncomfortable..
ME; Anabel what is it?.
ANABEL; Nothing.
ME; You are staring at me and you said nothing.
ANABEL; Eerm, you are handsome.
ME; (na you sabi) Thank you. Please can we go now?.
I wonder what my Isabella would be thinking why i didn’t pick her call, especially if she see the wound. I’m sure i have enough explanation to give to her.
Anabel didn’t say any other word. She started the car and we drove away.
Some minutes later, we drove inside the compound and she kill the car engine. We came down from the car.
I looked up lo and behold Isabella was walking closer to the car. My heart was beating faster for no just reason. Anabel was holding and leading me to my room. She didn’t even care at all. She came closer, we stopped and she saw Anabel holding me to herself. *her face change and she said*
ISABELLA; Hi sis. *frown face*
ANABEL; Hello Bella. What’s up.
ISABELLA; I’m fine.
She looked at my shoulder and saw the bandage that was on my shoulder and said.
ISABELLA; Tobe, what happened to you. Why the bandage..
ME; Ooh i was injured.
ISABELLA; OMG! what happened, how, who did this to you. Please talk to me. Let me take you to your room first.
She asked Anabel not to worry that she will take me to the room.
But Anabel declined saying she will take me by herself.
ANABEL; Don’t worry dear sis. I will take him by myself. *smiled*
Isabella was surprised and sad, that her sister was holding me. She felt jealousy
ANABEL; Dear lets go. She said to me.
I followed her to my room. I turn and saw Isabella looking at us, mouth open. She felt dejected and sad, that i didn’t greet her as usual. I too, i wasn’t happy to see her in sad mood. Anabel was smiling all through. But i gat no choice. I unlocked the door and Anabel came in. I look outside and Isabella was still staring at us almost in tears. I wanted to go and meet her, but i don’t want Anabell to know that there is something going on between me and her sister. So i concluded that i will see her later and tell her everything she need to know.
Thank God that we are finally home. Anabel said to me.

*Episode 25*

Mama I will be returning to the city today so that i can resume my work *i said to my G.mama* throughout this period. I haven’t spoken with Isabella, coz my phone was off through out..so no way to communicate with her.
G.MAMA; My son, why do you want to go today. You know i was just been discharged from the hospital yesterday, so why do you want to leave me and go again? *she said almost in tears*.
ME; Aaah mama. Today is the deadline day my oga gave me to come back. So mama, i wish i could stay and take care of you, but i have to go. I promise to be checking on you every month okay. Meanwhile i bought enough of provisions that will last for you like two months and i kept some money in your room. Chinaza will take care of you mama. Just take care of yourself for me.
G.MAMA; Tobem, you have done enough for me my son. If not you, i don’t know what would have happened to me. May God bless you. You will never lack. Evil eyes shall not see you. *blessings continue*
ME; Amen mama. Thank you too and please don’t sick again o. I will miss you o.
G.MAMA; I will miss you too my son. Please take care of yourself.(she hug and bade me good bye)
I called chinaza and gave her some naira note. (big boy things na, you won try) She was very happy. She also bade me good bye. I took my hp bag and left. On my way to the village park, i saw Uzoma coming back from the market. She saw me and she ran and hug me to my greatest surprise. Haa nawao.
ME; Uzoma, how you dey?.
UZOMA; My Tobe. I dey fine. Where are you going with your bag?.
ME; (i want to go and fetch firewood, idiot). I’m going bag to the city.
UZOMA; *sad face* Why do you want to leave me and go. Why you don’t like me. Am i not beautiful like those city girls?.(she asked almost in tears).
After hearing those words from her. I became speechless. Truly i wasn’t treating her right. She likes me alot no doubt. But i don’t have any feelings for her, it wasn’t my fault na.
ME; Uzoma see, i don’t hate you okay. You are a beautiful girl and i don’t know what to say again.
UZOMA; I love you Tobem. Please love me back na, biko.
(Nawao this one na serious case o.wahala dey o. This girl dey serious no be small.)
ME; Hmmm eerm Uzoma. I have to go now, when next i come back we will talk. You hear.
UZOMA; Okay Tobem. I bought something for you at the market.
She made to open her bag, but i held her hand.
ME; Don’t worry. Am fine maybe next time. I have to go now.
UZOMA; Okay, I love you Tobem. Bye bye.
She bade me good bye and left. I couldn’t help but stood and looked at her. Chai! poor girl.
I resume my journey to the park. I got to the motor park and boarded a bus. It took some minutes before the bus took off. Some hours later, i got to the city and 30 minutes later i was face to face with chief Simon’s large gate. Suddenly i became afraid to go inside. I just don’t know why. I stood at the gate for more than ten(10)minutes. Finally i gathered the courage to knock. I moved closer and knock, seconds later Jumbo opened the gate. He saw me and shouted my name loud. (wetin dey worry this guy na. Why shouting my name).
JUMBO; Chai! oga Tobe. Na you be this?.
ME; Noo, no be me. Na your papa ghost.
JUMBO; Oga Tobe, you funny o. Longest time, na now you dey come back? (mitcheew.why is it that we nigerians like asking funny questions. You see me coming in with my bag you still dey ask me na now you dey come back, nawao).
ME; Jumbo nawa for this your question o. How you dey na.
JUMBO; Oga Tobe i dey fine o. See how you dey shine. Hmmm, your wife dey take care of you o.
ME; Na you sabi, na you marry wife give me. Oga don come back and what of anty Isabella?.
JUMBO; Oga never come back o and anty Isabella talk say your number no dey go. She dey wory o.
ME; Hmmm, she dey inside abi?.
JUMBO; No she just comot now now with anty Anabell too.
ME; Okay na, see you later. I gave him one of the coconut i brought.
He thank me and i left to my apartment. My room was untiedy, i did some clean up and cook small rice coz i was hungry. I ate and was relaxing. It was 7pm in the evening and Isabella not back yet.i was still relaxing when sleep came and took me away. It was a hard knock from the door that woke me up.
I wanted to ignore the knock but the person never gave up on knocking. I stood up and went to the bathroom to wash my face and mouth. I came back and the person was still knocking. I went and unlock the door and here stood was my dear Isabella.
Immediately she saw she smiled and jump on me. (it is good to be strong o. otherwise i for fall down like….) I carried Isabella for some seconds before dropping her. (i no be John cena or Batista of WWE).
She held my lips and dropped a soft kiss on it.(chai! omo my brain scarter for the kiss. E don tey wey i kiss last na. So no be my fault. Her lips soft no be small.if she try the kissing again. I swear i’m ready to forget my G.mama name. lols).
ME; Hi Isabella, you are looking great.
ISABELLA; Thanks dear. I missed you so much.
ME; *chai! oboy, na me be this* I, I, I missed you too baby.(to be honest, i was shy calling her that name, baby)
ISABELLA; Wow! you called me baby. Hmmm, i love it.

Anabel; I shouted *mouth open*. She was silent staring at me with a smile. I went more closer, she was looking as beautiful as ever.
ANABEL; Hi dear.
ME; How did you know my address. Who told you to come. I mean how and (she cut me in).
ANABEL; You ask a lot of question. Aren’t you happy to see me, or won’t you welcome me to your house?.
I got no choice than to ushered her to our poor home. I was still surprise to see Anabel of all people in my home, wonders shall never end indeed. God my life is in your hands o. I gave her one of our plastic chair to sit at the compound, coz no sitting room.
ME; Anabel, welcome to my poor home.
ANABEL; Thanks dear. (this dear dear she dey call me go cause small wahala o when that one start now).
ME; So what can i get for you.
ANABEL; Don’t worry dear. I’m fine for now.(another dear.hmmm).
ME; Noo i insist, atleast you are my visitor. I need to offer you something.
ANABEL; I’m okay but if you insist just get me water.
I went inside and fetch a glass of water for her. She drank and said.
ANABEL; Please Tobe, please take me to your room, the sun is much here.
My room ke! I stood for a while before leading to the room. Atleast i swept it this morning and is very neat. When we got in, i offered her the only plastic chair in my room but she refused. She preferred to sit on the bed coz is very soft. After she settled down on the bed.
ANABEL; You have a nice room here.(continue mocking me, this thing you called nice).
ME; Thanks. *straight face*
ANABEL; I know you are surprise to see me here. Aren't you?.
ME; Surprise is an understatement. I must say.
ANABEL; Yea i know. I came back yesterday and i couldn’t find you. I asked Isabella about you and she said you traveled down to the village. I was surprised coz you didn’t tell me that you were traveling. I wanted to see you again so i asked jumbo to give me your address. He did and today i decided to visit you and at same time to know your house.
ME; Hhmmm, thanks for coming. But did you tell Isabella that you were coming to visit me.(i pray she will say no, coz Isabella is the jealous type).
ANABEL; Why did you asked.(nothing) Anyway i didn’t tell her, not even my dad coz he won’t let me come. Any other question?.
ME; Hmmm.
ANABEL; So tell me. Where are your parents and siblings or are you leaving here alone?.
ME; My parents died long time ago and i have no siblings. I only stay here with my grand mama.
ANABELL; I’m very sorry for that. You never told me that your dad and mom are dead. What about your grandy.
ME; At the hospital. She is sick, that was why i came back. To take care of her.
ANABEL; Is a pity dear. I wish i could see her, but i wish her quick recovery.
ME; Thanks for your care and thanks for coming. Is my pleasure having you in my poor home.
ANABEL; Thanks. You know what?. I missed you. *smiling* (haa, missed me ke. When did that one start na, for how many days. Chai! I wish that Isabella was the one telling me i missed you).
ME; Really, thanks.
ANABELL; Aaah Tobe. You are not romantic o. Didn’t you miss me?. Anyway i got some new clothes for you.
She went inside her car and brought out a small bag. She came back and handed the bag over to me. I collected it and thank her.
ME; Thanks for the clothes. *fake smile*
ANABEL; You are welcome. I’m glad that you like them. *smiled*.
Some minutes later we became silent staring at each other. I wondering what was going on in her mind. Hope is not what am thinking o. I looked into her eyes and found out that Anabel is a damsel. She was beautiful was just a word. (I must tell, this girl fine no be small). She came very closer to me and held my hand and the same time she was looking into my eyes. (abeg make this girl no charm me o). She smiled at me and said.
ANABEL; Tobe please i’m very sorry the way i treated you earlier. I didn’t know what came over me then..forgive me. (she wanted to kneel down but i pulled her up).
ME; Please don’t kneel down for me. I’m not God, beside i have nothing against you. i forgive you, we are cool. *smiling* (is this truly the Anabel of all people that i use to know, begging me to forgive her. Haa i’m surprise o and afraid).
ANABEL; *smiling* thank you dear. I don’t know what has been happening to me. You are always on my mind. I think i like you Tobe.(no be only like.) Do you have a girl friend?.
ME; *yes your sister* Eerm not really. I mean yes.
ANABEL; *straight face* Who is she. I mean where is she leaving at. Do you love her?.
Many questions that i hate to answer. But before i could answer her, her phone started ringing. She excused herself to answer the call. After the call, she told me that she will be leaving now. She beg me to come back soon.bla bla bla. Finally she left, but what shocked me most was she peck me before leaving. I was asking myself, Tobe what was the meaning of that na?. I became afraid to go back to the city.

TWO DAYS LATER. My G.mama was discharged from the hospital. I paid the balance and the doctor gave her some medication and how she will take it.
Weekend finally came. I started preaparing for my journey back to the city.

Some minutes later, the waiter placed my order before me. To my surprise Anabel ordered the same thing with me. Hmmm see this Ajeboter girl wey they do as if she no dey swallow garri. She was consuming the food more than me self.
ME; *clear throat* Is like you like the food?.
ANABELL; Hmmm, not like that. I’m just managing it for eating sake. Eba isn’t my favourite.
ME; Hmmm. (pretender, eba isn’t your favourite but you have consume a plate of eba.).
ANABEL; What did you said?.
ME; Nothing.
ANABEL; I ordered it because of you. *smiling*.
ME; How?.
ANABEL; Never mind.
ME; *na you sabi*.
After the meal, we started gisting again. Ring ring ring.
My phone started ringing again for the second time and it was Isabella again. I didn’t pick the call.
ANABEL; Why don’t you answer your call. Who is that?.
ME; Never mind.
ANABEL; She was the one calling. Right?.
ME; *surprised* who?.
ANABEL; Your girlfriend na or are you denying her.
ME; Hmmmm.
ANABEL; You haven't told me about her. Who is she?.
ME; Eerm, you'r funny o.
ANABEL; So how am i funny?
ME; How did you know it was a girl that called me.
Before she could answer James from nowhere bang in. I was surprised to see him coz he was the last person i wish to see. Ever since we had that fight that i beat him black and blue, I haven't seen him again.
He came closer to our table and stood like a tiger ready to attack. I wasn’t afraid of him. If he try me again, i will still beat him again. Na one of those boys wey them use indomie and golden morn train. Although we might be in the same age, but but but anyway.
ANABEL; Hi James. How did you know that we are here?.
ME; *silent and staring at him*.
JAMES; Baby what are you doing here with this thing? *angry tone*.
ANABEL; Excuse me.
JAMES; *loud tone* i said what are you doing here with this village imbecile, in the same table.
ME; *still silent*
ANABEL; Baby take it easy okay. People are watching us.
JAMES; I won’t take it easy until you tell me what this smelly thing is doing here with you. Oh gosh.
I was boiling in anger gradually. This boy want to see the part two of the last beat i gave him last time. I won’t take the insult from him again.
ME; Please James or whatever you call your self. Enough of the insult.
JAMES; Oh what, you wanna fight me again right.
ME; I won’t fight you, rather i will beat you.
JAMES; I have no time for a fool like you. *spite out*.
JAMES; Anabel, i hope is not what i’m thinking.
ANABEL; And what are you thinking. *stood up*
JAMES; I hope you are not flirting with this village parasite here.
ANABEL; *frown face* excuse me James. When did that one start, eeh tell me. This is my privacy. I have my life to leave. You can’t come into my life and command me on what to do. I need privacy please. I’m sick and tired of all this nonsense. It won’t lead us to any where. Tobem here is my friend. Is it a crime to go out with him?.
JAMES; Anabel are you talking to me like that because of this animal here you call your friend?.
ANABEL; *silent staring at me*
JAMES; Don’t forget that you are my girlfriend.
ANABEL; I’m your girlfriend right? Then behave like a matured man for once. Stop following me everywhere i go.
JAMES; I can’t believe that you are talking to me this way, because of a common gardner.
ANABEL; Hmmm, you called him a gardner. But he is more than a gardner to me. So stop it.
ME; *how do she mean by that*.
JAMES; This is crazy. I’m taking you out from here right now. (he tried to pull her hand away).
ANABEL; Leave me alone. I’m not going anywhere with you. You are embarrassing me. *she shouted*.
JAMES; Is a lie. You must come with me or i will take you by force.
He was forcing her away from the restaurant. People gathered to watch the scene that was going on. Anabel was fighting to free herself from him, but her strength wasn’t enough. I couldn’t take it any longer. This James is really crazy, he don’t have respect for women. Is it force to follow him?. I stood up and went closer to them.
ME; James can’t you see she don’t wanna come with you. Leave her alone now.
JAMES; *laugh sarcastically* see who is talking.
ME; I said leave her alone.
JAMES; Or what, fool. What are you gonna do?. *still holding anabell*
Dis boy dey try me o. I went closer to them and with force i pulled Anabel away from him.(you want try).kpoaa! He gave me a blow on my jaw. I couldn’t endure the pain which made me to give him double blow on his jaw too. Immediately he fell down and groan in pain. I turn arround and saw Anabel on the floor. I went closer to her and held her hand.
ME; Are you okay?.
ANABEL; Yea am fine thanks. Watch your back.(she shouted).
I turn around, lo and behold James was very close to me holding a small knife. He raised his hand to stab me with the knife. I was fast enough to force back. But unfortunately the knife stab my left shoulder. Blood started oozing out. Immediately James dropped the knife and ran away. I feel down and moan in pain. Jesus!! Anabel shouted.
ANABEL; Please baby i’m sorry. She use her hand to cover the blood that was oozing out.
Please somebody should help us *she shouted*

*Episode 26*

After Isabella had left that night, i was very happy within me. She was truly inlove with me, no doubt. It was written all over her face. But what i don’t understand was what made her to bring herself so low to me. A whole millionaire's daughter falling inlove with nobody like me, a village illiterate, a gardner, though i’m handsome (i fine small, no be moi moi. lols) i can’t tell. Love is blind indeed. But how will i raise enough money to take care of her, coz i hate girls to control me. Is abnormal to every guy. She told me not to worry about that, that she will take care of it. But still not normal. Well lets wait and see.
I slept peacefully that night. I woke up the following morning. I went to the bathroom and freshen up. Then i went to my garden work. I did alot of work that morning. Trimming and watering the flowers and so on. By 12pm i was done with the work.
Oga Tobe weldone o. Jumbo greeted.
ME; Aah Jumbo the jumbo. *i hail him*
JUMBO; Oga mi, good morning.
ME; Good morning Jumbo. How you dey na. How your tin dey?.
JUMBO; I dey fine o. My tin just dey. Hamathan don freeze am finish….lols.
ME; Hahahahaha. chai! I don die. Go put am near fire na.
JUMBO; Chai! na now i no say you no like me. How you wan make i put am near fire. The tin fit burn. Abeg i never marry o. hahahaha.
ME; I don hear you. So anything for me?.
JUMBO; Bros nothing dey o. But don’t worry, later we go go shark one one bottle.

After the call, I called my Isabella’s number but it wasn’t reachable. I went to the garden to relax a little bit. I was relaxing when i suddenly fell asleep, all thanks to the fresh air. I woke up some minutes later, but i was shocked to found someone sitting beside me. A lady, i though it was Isabella. With a smile, i stood up to hug her.but i looked up and it wasn’t Isabella. The letter was confusing but i will try and read it.
It says;;
My heart speaks softly through reminiscing of past time. Your essence rampages like a wild horse galloping to find a fresh stream of water to a scorching summer day. My love triumphs because of you encompass my heart everyday.
I want to give you the key to my heart, and when you enter please irrigate the veins with all your heart. Maintain it with fidelity, take care of it with all the tenderness and it will be the beginning of our eternal love.
At first, i thought we will just be friends but little did i know that my heart would bend for a village boy like you.
Anytime i’m with you, i always have this feeling to hold you to myself. But i can’t coz i was afraid.
True love had finally knocked me down. I want to be with that special one that leaves me breathless which is you Tobe.
My heart always beat for you. I want you to take me to a place where we will have no pain nor tears.

We stood and left the restaurant together silently. We got home and she bade me good bye and left for her apartment. I went inside my room and immediately my phone started ringing. I check the phone and it was an unknown number calling. I picked the call.
ME; Hello, who is this?.
CALLER; Hello am i speaking with Tobechukwu? (the fermine voice said)
ME; Yes this is Tobechukwu.
CALLER; I am OLA from umuagu village. I’m calling to inform you that your grand mother just collapsed this morning and she has been taking to the hospital and the doctor said he need to see you before he starts any treatment.
ME; What happened to her. Where is she., which hospital? Please tell me?. *tears had started dropping from my eyes already*
OLA; Calm down Tobe. She was taken to the village center hospital. So we are expecting you.
ME; Okay thank you. I will be there before dawn. (i hung the call and started shedding tears like a baby).
Not now please God don’t allow anything bad to happen to her. She is the only one i have now. She must not die o.
I started arranging some of my clothes inside my small bag. Atleast i have 30k with me, that will be fine. Chief Simon granted my request to go, but asked me to come back soon. I thank him and left, I went to Isabella’s room and knocked. She came and open the door for me.
ISABELLA; Tobe, I’m surprise to see you. You are looking worried. What happened. Is everything alright?.
ME; I’m traveling to village.

ME; I just got a call some minutes ago that my grand mama just collapse and she has been taken to the hospital. I have to go and see her.

I left her room, took my bag and left to the village. Inside the bus, I wanted to open the envelope. But i decided to go home first. As usual the journey lasted for some hours before i got to the village. I went inside our house and met only the house help, Chinaza by name. Some minutes later i got to the hospital and one of the nurse directed me to were my G.mama was. I went inside the ward and saw my G.mama laying helplesly on the bed. With more tears in my eyes i left the ward to the doctor’s office. After exchanging pleasantries with him, he asked me to sit down.
DOCTOR; You came for your mother, right.
ME; Yes doctor, what happened to her. Why did she collapsed?.
DOCTOR; yes, she is suffering from asthma.
ME; Eeeh doctor. What is asthma kwa.
DOCTOR; Well asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflame and narrows the airways.
ME; *confused* i did not understand a single word you just said. But i don’t want to know whatever you called it. All i want is for her to be fine. So what are we going to do?.
DOCTOR; She will be fine, but you have to pay the sum of 30k before we start any treatment.
Thank God i came with exactly 30k. But how will i raise the remaining balance eeh. I paid the money to him and immediately they get to work.
It was getting late. So i decided to go home and freshen up.
I got home, after freshen up the house help brought some food for me. I ate the food was very delicious. I started wondering if she was the one that cooked the food. No it can be her, she is too small to cook such delicious food na. Then i ask her.
ME; Chinaza, are you the one that made this food?.
CHINAZA; Noo uncle Tobe. It was anty Uzoma that cooked the food.
ME; Uzoma ke. when?.
CHINAZA; This afternoon sir. She said that she made the food special for you. She was among those that took mama to the hospital and she said that you are..ssssh.(i cut in).
ME; Is okay. I have heard you. You can go back to your room.(parrot).
She left to her room. What is this girl Uzoma up to na. Haa, she is on her own o. But the food sweet no be small. It has been long i ate this kind food last o. She done try but still she is on her own.
I went inside my bag and took the envelope that Isabella gave me. I open it and i saw some thousand notes and a sheet of paper. Wow, see money. I counted the money and it was 40k. Chimo o. See me see money o. Thank you God, i took the sheet of paper and open it, it was a letter, what did she write here?. I started reading the letter. It says.

ME; I am sorry for disturbing you *sad face* I made to go, she stood and held my hand. I must tell, her hands was so soft. She came very close to me as if she wanna kiss me and said.
ISABELLA; Tobe I am very sorry the way i spoke to you, just that i wasn’t myself.
ME; Is okay, i understand how you feel but if i may ask why. what happen to you that is making you sad. Is it your boyfriend?.

ME; Then why are you sad. I am your friend so you can always count on me.
ISABELLA; Eerm, are you having any affair with Anabel?. Please don’t lie to me.

ME; Eerm. I wish i can teach. But i don’t know how to dance.

ME; How much will you pay? Coz everything in our country now is money.

I ordered her to come forward which she did. I placed my left hand on her shoulder and my right hand on her waist tightly. (chai! see fresh body, free touching things activated. Na me be this? Every were went silent as usuall.i looked at both Anabel and Isabella’s face. They weren’t smiling nor frown.
ANABEL; Eerm dad, I have concluded my final decision on him.

ANABEL; Let him stay. Let him continue working for us.
C.SIMON; Are you sure of what you just said?.
ANABEL; Yes dad. (i was smiling throughout. Isabella caught me smiling and she couldn’t help but smiled back.
C.SIMON; Alright Tobechukwu. Just thank your stars, otherwise you would have been in the village right this moment. But let me warn you, don’t ever in your life lay this your strong hands on any of my daughters again. If you try it next time, i will lock you up in jail and nobody i mean nobody will save you. Hope i’m understood.
ME; *smiling* yes sir, thank you for giving me a second chance. It won’t happen again i promise.

C.SIMON; Sorry for yourself. And one more thing. I will be traveling for a business meeting tomorrow. I will be away for a week so i want you to take care of the compound till when i will come back.
ME; Okay sir no problem. I will do just that.
C.SIMON; You can go now.
I stood up and left without looking at the girls faces. Victory at last. Anabel really surprised me. Only God knows why she change her mind. Well is good shaa. I am not ready to go back to that boring village.
I was in my room dancing and celebrating for the victory i just got. I was playing the song of our nigeria artist duro by Tekno. The music was in the highest volume. I like the song so much and i was carried away with the lyrics of the song. I didn’t know that someone was knocking at the door. I was still dancing with a bottle of one man squared that i bought last time. The person knocked and got no replied and pushed the door open and came in. The next thing that i heard was. So you can dance well like this. Immediately i heard the voice i pause the music to see who owns the voice and it was no other person than Anabel. (what is she doing inside my room).
ME; Anabel, what are you doing here. How long have you been here?.
ANABEL; I just came in now.who taught you how to dance. Can you teach me?.

*Episode 18*

After relaxing for a while. I went to see jumbo at the gate. Isabella and co are now against me. So Jumbo is my only friend for now. I bought two bottles of beer for ourselves. We were gisting on different things. I told him i might be going back today. He pleaded with me not to go. I told him my stay depends on Anabel’s hands. We were still gisting when Isabella walked closer to us. I saw her and hissed loud. You and your sister are the same.
ISABELLA; *clear throat* hi guys.(i kept silent and started looking at the gate).
JUMBO; Aah anty Isabella. good morning o.
ISABELLA; Good morning. How you dey today?.
JUMBO; Anty anty i dey fine o.
ISABELLA; Hi Tobem.
I kept silent and looked away. Jumbo just looked at me and say.
JUMBO; Oga Tobe, Anty Isabella dey greet you.
ME; I don hear. Tell am make she no disturb me.
Isabella was disappointed with my hash reply which made her to walked away almost in tears. I didn’t regret my action towards her. She deserve it when she slapped me nko. *mitchew*.
JUMBO; Una dey quarrel? I mean you and Isabella.
ME; No, we dey fight. Why u dey ask?.
JUMBO; See the way you take talk to her. It was hash na.
ME; Jumbo forget that okay.
We gisted for some minutes before i decided to take a walk around the street coz it has been long i did that. On my way, i started hungry so i branched at one of the restaurant to feed myself. Some minutes later i looked up and saw Anabel with two of her friends walked inside the restaurant. She looked towards my direction and saw me.(what is this pharaoh’s daughter doing here). They went and settled down far away from me. They ordered for what they want. I was still eating my own food. Anabel didn’t looked at my side again. They concentrated on there food likewise me.
Some minutes later. The waiter brought another plate of fried rice and chicken for me. I was surprised coz i didn’t ordered for any other food except the one i was eating.
WAITER; Excuse me sir. Here is your food.
ME; Food ke. Please i didn’t order any other food na. This one am eaten is what i ordered, beside this food you brought is very expensive. Maybe it was a mistake.
WAITER; *smile* actually, someone has already paid for the food. She said i should give you. She has also paid for the one you are just eating now. So feel free and enjoy yourself.
ME; *confuse*. she ke. Sorry miss. Who is she. I mean the one that asked you to give me the food.
WAITER; The lady over there.(pointing at Anabel.)
ME; *hope am not dreaming* Are you sure of what you just said now?.
WAITER; Yes sir. Am very sure.
I wasn’t feeling hungry any more so i asked the waiter to help me with take away. She package the food for me and i started heading home. Anabel and her friends were still gisting only God knows. I looked at her for the last time. I don’t know what to say or do again. I took the take way and left the restaurant.
On my way a car drove and stopped very closer to me. Who be this mumu wey no sabi drive. You dey craze, you want hit me, nonsense. I was still shouting at the stupid driver that nearly knocked me down. When a lady walked down from the car. I looked up and saw no other person than Anabel. I became speechless instantly. (i must confess. Anabel is very beautiful like her sister, just that she is black but very pretty. While Isabella is fair, that was the only difference between them). I finally found my lost voice.
ME; Anabel do you want to hit me. Eeh, are you blind. Has it gotten to this? So you want to kill me abi. You won’t succeed this time around. *i poured my anger on her*.
ANABEL; *clear throat* Hi Tobe. I am very sorry for my reckless driving. I wanted to stop beside you. But it went very close. Did the car touched you?.
ME; *angry tone* before nko. You don’t know that i am the only son of my mother. You want to kill me for her abi?.
ANABEL; *smiled* you are very funny Tobe. Why will i kill you. Please get inside the car lets go home.
ME; (i don’t need your help f**l) Eerm don’t bother yourself. I will find my way. *i made to go away*.
ANABEL; I am heading home. Come on let me drop you. Okay please lets go.
I started asking myself some questions. Is this truly Anabel behaving this way or is this her photo copy. Anabel of all people. Why the sudden change. Today is the deadline day that she will make her final decision. If this is a dream, please nobody should wake me up otherwise i will fight the person.
We drove silent through out the journey we didn’t talk to each other till we get home. She killed the car engine and we came down.
I made to go without any word to her, but she called me back.
ANABEL; Are you walking away without even thanking me for the ride.
ME; Eerm, thanks for the food.
ANABEL; What about the ride?.
ME; No thanks. *frown*.
ANABEL; Naughty you. I will catch you. *smiling* (you and who dey smile, mitchew).
I left her to my room. She stood there looking at me.
I went closer to the door that lead to my room and saw another shocker. Isabella was sitting at the only plastic chair beside my door waiting for me. Isabella, what are you doing here?. I asked her.

As i settled down, all eyes were on me.
C.SIMON; Tobe, Tobe, Tobe, how many times did i called you?.
ME; (i no count am).three times sir.
C.SIMON; Is it true of what am hearing?.
ME; Sir i don’t understand please.
C.SIMON; I was told that you beat up my daughter here Anabel. Is that true?.
ME; Eerm eerm sir, not really. I was i was (Anabell cut in).
ANABELL; You was what. Dad, this imbecile here hit me on my chest (my people, did i hit her on her chest?.no be just slap i give her).
C.SIMON; So you are trying to lie to me right.
ME; No sir o. I didn’t hit her o. Is just slap. but it wasn't intentional sir please believe me, she pushed me.
C.SIMON; Just shut up my friend, upon everything that i am doing for you. I brought you out from the village. I gave you a new life to live. I employed you as my gardner not for free. i was paying you handsomely.
ME; Sir please. (shup up let me finish.he cut in.
C.SIMON; So you turn my daughter to a punching bag right. Haven't they told you that i don’t use my children to joke. You dare raise this your hand on my daughter. I don’t know what to say to you right now. I feel like killing you with my own hands. I feel like locking you up for the rest of your life. Do you want to kill her eeeh. Did you know the damage you have caused me.
ME; Sir with due respect. I didn’t hit your Anabel. I only slapped her. It wasn’t my fault. She was always looking for my trouble ever since i came into this house. I don’t know what wrong i did to her. She hate me with no reason. She called me names, she insulted my family because we are poor. Is that fair?. I always tried to avoid her but today she splash a full bucket of water on me with no reason. I couldn’t held my anger any more, that was why i slapped her which made her to loss conscious. Sir i regretted my action and am sorry for that.
I went close to Anabel and held her hands but she pushed me away. Still i didn’t give up rather i went more closer to her and said.
ME; Anabel, I am sorry if i had done any wrong against you. Forgive me, i apologize. i am sorry for hitting you.
ANABEL; Apology not accepted. Get out from my sight..(i quetly left her sight to my sit).
C.SIMON; Well Tobe. I wanted to lock you up in police cell, but i have change my mind to that. I won’t sack you by myself but by the victim you hit. Anabel will decide your fate whether you will continue working here or not. If she say you should continue then fine. But if she said you should be sacked then you have no choice than to go back to your village.
C.SIMON; So Anabel, Do you want tobe to continue working or do you want him to go back to the village. Just make your choice and it will be done.
Every were went silent like a grave yard. Anabel was looking at me quietly while Isabella was giving her the eyes of "don’t sack him please." I deviated my eyes to Isabella and our eyes met instantly. She was looking at me while i was looking back at her. Anabel was still silent. I wasn’t afraid to be sacked but i was afraid that i will miss the city and especially Isabella. I strongly believe that Anabel will surely want me to go back to were i come from. She hate me with passion so the result has already been called. But what is she waiting for na. Why don’t she say it once and for all let me go and pack my things and go.
Three(3) minutes gone. Anabel was still silent staring at me..
C.SIMOM; *clear throa* Anabel we are still waiting for you.
ANABEL; Dad, i am not in the mood to talk. Lets prosponed it till tomorrow please.
C.SIMON; Are you sure of that?.
ANABEL; Yes dad, tomorrow am gonna make my finally decision.
C.SIMON; Okay! if you say so. Tobe, for now you can go back to your room till tomorrow.
ME; Alright sir thank you.
I left the room without looking back nor said any other word to them. Tomorrow i will try and make peace with Isabella before my final departure. i said to myself.
I went to my bed and slept off comfortably. Maybe this gonna be my last time to sleep here again.

THE FOLLOWING DAY.
I was triming some of the flowers down. I was through with the triming and i was going back to my room to freshen up. I looked up and saw Anabel coming. She came closer to me and said.
ANABELLA; Tobe good morning. How was your night? *she asked, staring at me*
Heeeh. i shouted. Hope am not dreaming. Anabel is greeting me for the first time. Wonders shall never end. Maybe is a good bye greeting., who knows.
I walked pass her without replying her greeting, she should go to hell. when did she start to care. I hate her..

Anabel anabel anabeeel. I called her. She was still laying lifeless on the ground. Please na stand up abeg. It wasn’t intentional. Please don’t die now. Oh God am finished today o. Why did i slapped her at the first place. I didn’t know when i did it o. I always try to avoid her but she won’t let me be. Please Anabel biko nu wake up. I took the water left on the bucket and splash it on her head, face and her body but there wasn’t any movement. Chai! I was panting very hard, is this how my life will end. Had i known i would have continue my stay in the village than to come to the city and die in jail.
I pulled her head on my lap and fixed my mouth to her own and blow some air in her mouth (free kissing.lols). I did it two more times before she sneeze out loud. (thank you lord, Ii said to myself). She slowly open her eyes but still laying down. She was very weak to talk nor to look at me. Anabel how are you feeling?.i asked but got no reply. I heard a footstep coming towards our direction. I looked back and it was Isabella coming. She came closer to us and ask.
ISABELLA; Tobe what is happening here. Why is Anabell laying on the ground. What happened to her?.
ME; Eerm eerm. i was. we were(she cut in).
ISABELLA; You hit her right?. *she asked with a frown*. she was boiling in anger. I haven't seen her in that mood ever since i met her.
ISABELLA; Answer me now, you hit my sister with this your hands. How dare you? *she asked with anger* i was very confused. I can’t believe that it was Isabella talking to me in that manner.
ME; Isabella calm down. Yes i beat her, but it wasn’t intentional. She was the one that look for my trouble. I try to controll myself but she pushed me to do that. I am sorry please.
Before i could say any othe word, she gave me slap. I didn’t say anything to her coz i was at fault.
ME; Why did you slap me?.
ISABELLA; Just shut your gutter up. Let's take her inside.
I succumb to her. I lifted Anabel up with my two hands to her room, although she was a little bit heavy but i didn’t mind. I took her to her room and kept her on her bed. Anabel was looking at me but not an angry look again. She was still weak and she haven't say anything.
ISABELLA; Stay with her let me get some stuffs for her to drink and pray to your God let nothing bad happen to her otherwise you will get yourself in a worst situation that you will never escape. *she said and left the room for i and Anabell*.
(Is this Isabella talking to me that way, no i don’t think is her. Isabella that i know will never talk to me like that. She even slapped me. What really came over her. Is it because of what happened to her sister. Let her go to hell, i hate both of them now.)
ME; Hi Anabel. How are you feeling. Can i get anything for you?.
ANABEL; You bast**d. You will regret this. I will make sure you rot in jail f**l.
ME; (you even get the mouth to shout at me. I even thought that you were dead. This girl will never change. I pray they should not tell there dad. Coz nobody will defend me again. No friend again. Isabella is now against me…)

She was silent for some seconds before she finally said.

Immediately Isabella walked in with a tin of milk and other stuffs which i don’t know.

ANABEL; Thanks dear. Please tell this thin here to get out from here. I don’t wanna see him again.(pointing at me. She is calling me a thin. a whole me.).
Isabella gave me an evil eye and said.
ISABELLA; Am sure you heard her. Leave us now and never come back.
I nodded to her and left the room. I finally made up my mind to go back to the village the next day. I can’t stay here again where i will not have peace of mind. The two sisters are now against me and beside i know that chief Simon will sacked me if he heard that i beat her daughter. So what is the need staying here.
It was in the evening the same day, I was packing my clothes in my bag. Tomorrow morning i am going back to my village atleast i have some money with me.
I heard a knock on my door. I commanded the person to come in and it was Jumbo standing.
JUMBO; Oga Tobe. Big oga dey call you. Him talk say make you come now now.
Sweat started dropping from my body. I know why he was calling me. So i wasn’t much surprised and i am ready to face my fate. Anabel has finally succeeded by sending me back to my village. My God will judge her.
ME; Eerm Jumbo, dey go i dey come.
He left. I wore my clothe and started heading to the main house to know what the future hold for me.
I got to the sitting room and saw everybody facing me. Chief Simon, Isabella and Anabel, they frown there faces immediately they saw me, including Isabella. Good evening sir. I greeted him, he didn’t replied me instead he ordered me to sit down.

I got to the city some hours later. I knocked at the gate and jumbo open the gate for me.
JUMBO; Oga Tobe, you done come back. How your village na?.
ME; Jumbo, village dey fine.
JUMBO; Nawao, so wetin you bring come back na.
ME; Nothing o. I just bring back myself. Later we go go drink one bottle for junction.
JUMBO; Chai! oga Tobe that is why i like you. Eehe anty Isabella ask me whether you done come back.
ME; (make she leave me alone jooh) When did she ask you?.
JUMBO; E never tey.
ME; Okay Jumbo. We go see later na.
I left jumbo to go and drop my bag. On my way i saw Anabel coming out from there main house. Immediately she saw me., she frown her face, hissed out loud and walk pass me. I wanted to laugh but i wasn’t in the mood. I no send her at all. I turn around and looked at her, she was still walking. I don’t know what took my eyes to her back side(ukwu) the waist side was well packaged. chai! see ukwu. Na all this things wey that James dey enjoy alone. Nawao. I removed my eyes from her waist and went to my room.
I tried calling Isabella’s number but it was not going through. Then i left her throughout the day Isabella didn’t come back to house. It was only Anabella and her dad was at home.
The next day I resume my work. After the day work, I took my bath and i was relaxing inside my room, some minutes later Isabella walked in without knocking.
ME; Who am i seeing. Can’t you knock?.
ISABELLA; Lols, the door wasn’t lock so i don’t wanna disturb you.

The following day. I was washing some of my clothes, when Anabel showed again with her problem. Hey hey Tobe or what ever you call yourself go and remove your clothes on that rope there. I wanna wash.
ME; No problem, if you are ready to wash. I will remove them.
ANABEL; Go and remove them now. I am the owner of this house so you have to follow all my commands. Coz i know that you and your generation will never build a house as big as this. *she said with an evil smile*.
ME; Anabel not again. I will not stand here and watch you insult me again.

ME; I don’t have your time. The best thing that i will do to you is to pay deaf ear to a sh*t like you.

Yes Anabel. I answered her. Before i could say any other word. She took the water from one of the bucket near me and splash it all over my body.

Weekend finally came. I took permission from my boss and he granted me. I took my hp bag which contain some of my clothes and left for the village. I spent the sum of one thousand naira from the city to umuagu my village.it was just six hours journey. I stop at one of the supermarket and bought some stuffs for my granny and my Tochi.
Finally, I got to my village. I took another bike from the village square to my house. I got home and every were was dry and quiet. Were is everybody?. i looked at the kitchen side and saw my old mother coming out.
Mama, i called immediately she saw me. She came forward and gave me a hug.
G.MAMA; My son, is this you?.
ME; (noo, is my ghost) Yes mama is me. How are you doing?.
G.MAMA; My son, am strong o. Just that i missed you alot.
ME; Ooh mama. You looks strong indeed. I missed you too. *smiled*.
G.MAMA; You are looking very fine o. You are really taking care of yourself. Your skin is now shining. *smiling*.
ME; Thank you mama. Lets go inside.
I went inside and took my bath. She brought out a well cook vegetable soup with hot fufu for me. I ate them as if i haven't eaten for days. The food was delicious no doubt. I really missed her cooking. After the food.
ME; Mama thank you for the food. I really missed your food. It’s very delicious.
G.MAMA; You are welcome my son. I made the food special for you. You can eat as much as you like.
I gave her what i bought for her…
ME; Mama, this is for you.(i handed the nylon to her).
G.MAMA; All this for me? thank you my son. May God bless you. You will never lack.
ME; Amen mama and this is for Tochi, my wife to be.
Immediately i mention Tochi’s name, my mama’s expression changed to sad mood. Ehee that remind me, how is she doing and what is the problem you were talking about when we spoke last time?
G.MAMA; Hmmm, my son i called you here so that we can talk about Tochi.
ME; Mama, what are you talking about. Hope nothing bad happened to my Tochi?.
G.MAMA; Tobechukwu there is a problem, tochi is pregnant.
ME; How, i mean what are you talking about. How is she pregnant?.
G.MAMA; She is two months pregnant. I called you here to ask you whether you are responsible for the pregnancy so that we can hurry and pay her bride prize before her stomach becomes bigger.
I was confused and surprise at the same time. How is Tochi pregnant na. I haven't done any jigida with her so far. How is this possible or is she pregnant for another man?. Noo. Tochi don’t do this to me.
G.MAMA; Tobechukwu, you are not saying anything.
ME; Mama i don’t know what to say. I haven't done any jigida with her since we met each other.

ME; Yes mama am not the one. So Tochi my Tobaby has been cheating on me at my back. Ooh Tochi, why did she do this to me. I trusted her very well. Mama why.
(i started crying like a three years old child, tears was dropping freely from my eyes. I didn’t know that i was good in crying till that moment. chai! Tochi my Tobaby why).
G.MAMA; My son biko stop crying eeh. You are hurting me with this your tears. I don’t like seeing you this way. What has happen has happen Tobe. What you will do now is to concentrate on your work in city. Just move on with your life, better girl will come at the right time, ooh nwam. Don’t cry again unless you want me to start my own cry. (she threaten).
ME; Mama, try to understand me.Tochi mean alot to me. I can’t forget her just like that. She was my first girlfriend., my first love. Tochi have betrayed me mama.(more tears found there way out from my eyes).
G.MAMA; And then., do you want to kill youself, Answer me. I have told you to forget her and move on, what else do you want me to do. If you want to kill yourself because of her then go ahead. What is your own self.(she said in a sad mood). Please my son don’t kill yourself. You are the only one i have please oo.
ME; I have heard you mama. I stood up and made to go. She called me back.
G.MAMA; Where are you going now.
ME; Mama am coming. I want to go and see her and ask her some questions. I will be back.
I left our house and headed to her house. In 15 minutes time I got to there compound and found nobody at home. I called Toch’s name but got no reply. I decided to check at their backyard. I saw her washing clothes. I was shocked to see her and i don’t know why. It wasn’t my first nor second time to see her. But i was shocked. She didn’t see me until i called out her name. She looked up and saw me standing. she stood still like a stature, shock, confusion, guilty and fear was written all over her body. Am sure she wish the ground should open and swallow her once and for all. I called her name again, still she didn’t move an inch were she was standing. The next thing i saw was tears dropping from her eyes.

*Episode 13*

I was in my room playing game with my phone again when i heard another knock and i shouted.
ME; Anabel leave me alone o. I will report you to your dad o. The knock became consistence. i wanted to ignore the knock because i strongly believe it was no other person than that daughter of pharaoh (ANABEL) with her another problem. I went and unlocked the door, lo and behold here stand is no other person than ISABELLA. Wow what a surprise. when did you return from school. I asked her.
ISABELLA; Some minutes ago. I just came to check on you. How are you and how is work?.
ME; Am fine thank you. You are looking good. I missed you.(heey.what did i just said. Is a mistake o, the word just came out.).
ISABELLA; Wow! really, i missed you too. I even bought this for you.(she gave me a beautiful neck chain and a wrist chain too.)
ME; All this for me?
Yes, they are all for you. Do you like it? she asked with a smiled.
ME; Yea, they are beautiful. I like it, thank you.
ISABELLA; You are welcome. That reminds me., I heard you shouting Anabel’s name, telling her to leave you alone. When i was at the door. What happened. Do you guys had another fight?.
ME; Yes o, she and her good for nothing boyfriend fought with me.
ISABELLA; Are you serious. How and why did they fight you?.
I narrated all the whole scene that happened between me and them. From the beginning they asked me to buy cigarette, the fight between me and james and lastly how she called the police to arrest me, before her dad save me.
ISABELLA; This is serious. So James is a smooker and my sister is still with him. I can’t believe this, thank God they didn’t arrest you o.
ME; Yes o. Your sister is dating a smooker. Infact i hate him self. He is even ugly.
ISABELLA; Lols, you are funny. What about Anabell. Do you hate her too.
ME; I don’t hate Anabell, but her behaviour towards me is making me to hate her gradually. If not that she is my boss daughter eeh, i would have given her the beaten of her life with this my strong hand, trust me.
ISABELLA; Abeg o, don’t kill my sister for me. What about me, do you hate me too?.
ME; Aah, how can i hate you. You haven't done anything wrong to me na. I can’t hate you. Infact i like you.
ISABELLA; Are you sure that you like me.
ME; Yea, i like you as a sister and a friend. You have been good to me from the day one i met you.
ISABELLA; I like you too Tobe. But how much do you like me.
ME; (oh my, this girl should leave me alone na. Why the questions.). Well i just like you, just normal liking.
ISABELLA; You know there is a difference between like and love. Like is when you just like the person, no feelings and love is when you have feeling for the person, your heart beat and sing for the person always, you will never go a day without thinking of the person. So which one do you have for me, like or love.(she asked me without smiling nor a straight face).
ME; (this is serious, who will save me from this mess. Ofcourse i am having some funny feelings for her o. I won’t lie, sometimes i think of her but not always. But i can’t tell whether what i have for her is like or love. I became very confused.) She was busy staring at me while i was battling with my thought.
ME; *clear throat* you see Isabella i really don’t know what to say. But i…..(before i could complete the word.my phone started ringing.) Excuse me. i said to her. I looked at the phone screen and it was unknown number calling. I wanted to abort the call but my mind came against it. I picked the call and it was a woman’s voice, an old woman.
ME, Hello, who is this?.
WOMAN; Hello, am i speaking with my Tobechukwu?.
ME; Yes mama. (i recognise the voice as my grand mother’s voice).
G.MAMA; Yes, is me your grand mother. How are you my son and how is city?.
ME; Oh mama, am fine and city is fine too. Hope you are strong. Who own’s this number?.
G.MAMA; Is a call center number. Am fine my son.
ME; And how is my Tochi m. Hope she is fine and beautiful as usuall. I will come and see you people soon.
G.MAMA; Okay my son. Tochi is fine o, but there is a problem.
ME; *suprised* problem. What happened, hope my Tobaby is okay. Mama talk to me.(i said, panting very hard).
G.MAMA; My son i can’t tell you on phone. I want you to come home first. It’s very serious.
ME; Okay mama. You know what, i am coming back home this weekend. Don’t worry if i come we can talk what the problem is.
G.MAMA; Okay my son. I will be expecting you. Take care of yourself. bye bye.
I hung the call and fell back at my seat. What must be the problem. That my mama don’t want to discuss with me on phone. Is that serious.? hope my Tobaby is fine. Something is telling me all is not well. Well only time will tell. Weekend is around the corner.
Isabella notice my sudden change and she ask.
ISABELLA; Tobe what happened. Why are you restless after the call. Hope all is well.
ME; Not really, my grand mother was the one that called me. She said there is a problem at home. That i should come ASAP. Am going to see her this weekend.
ISABELLA; Can i come with you?.
ME; No, don’t worry dear i will go alone, is not a good idea for you to come. Hope you understand. thanks.

Episode 12

ANABEL; What did you just say?
ME; You heard me right.
ANABEL; You are kidding right.
B.FRIEND; This boy need a little beaten. Am sure he gonna get it now.
He came forward and gave me one of the best blow that i have ever got. Before i could fight back, he doubled the blow and Anabel supported it with a hot slap.
Ooh gosh. I started seeing strong things. I saw my late parents smiling at me. oh all thanks to the blow mostly the beer. I nearly lost balance but i manage to stand. i was still suffering from the blow he gave me when he took a near-by plank and landed it on my head. Blood started oozing slowly from my mouth and head. Anabel was busy smiling. Her hand akimbo on her waist. Upon all the beaten i was still standing firm. But my eyes wasn’t helping the matter at all. He lifted the plank again for the second time to hit me.(this guy seriously want to send me to the hospital because of just one thousand naira). Before the plank could land on my head, i blocked it with my left hand on the air immediately the plank fell down, i took it before him. He wanted to run away but it was two late for him, i landed the plank on his head. He shouted out loud, but i didn’t give up on him (quitters never win na.) I landed another one at his back, he fell down instantly. I kept the plank and landed a powerful blow on his mouth. His mouth teared out, blood from no were started forming on his mouth. You want try village nigga. I thought him that all the akpu(fufu) i ate at the village no be for waste(lols) still i didn’t give up. I went closer to his neck and bit him deeply with my teeth, all my teeth went deeply inside his flesh.(he cried and moan out loud) baby he has killed me, baby he has killed me o(referring to Anabel).
ANABELL; You beast, do you want to kill him, you blood sucker. I don’t know that you are a vampire. You will regret this, i will make sure you rot in jail, imbecile.
I beat my chest and smiled. When he was beating me you were busy smiling. You didn't care nor ask him to stop hitting me, but now that i fought back you are now shouting. Atleast i have shown him what i am made off. Next time he won’t try such thing. He nearly disfigured my fine face with his blow, do me i do you no be crime. I concluded.
The so called boyfriend was busy moaning in pain, threaten to lock me up at the same time. But the damage has been done already. Anabel drove him to the nearby chemist for him to have some treatment, especially for the bit. I smiled to myself. Tobe you have done well. I said to myself.
I was in my room the same day playing game with my phone when a police van drove in. I peep through the glass and saw three police men came down from the van.
I already knew that i was the one they came to arrest, so i wasn’t much surprise. But i was afraid to go to nigeria prison. The story i have heard so far with nigeria prison wasn’t impressive.
Were is this foolish boy Tobe. Tobe were are you, come out now, idiot were are you, village boy were are you. That was the voice of no other person than Anabel.
I came out from the room and immediately she shouted.
ANABEL; Officer, this is the f**l that nearly killed my boyfriend. Arrest him and make sure you tutored him mercilessly.
OFFICER; Young man, you are under arrest for attempting murder. I will advice you to be silent coz anything you say will be use against you in the court of law.
ME; Murder kwa, officer i didn’t attempt to kill him o. I only defended myself
ANABEL; Shup up, officer take him away.
OFFICER; Young man, get inside the van.
They pushed me inside the van and wanted to drive away and immediately chief Simon drove in, he was surprise to see police men in his compound. He was also surprise to see me with handcuff.
C.SIMON; What is happening here. Anabel why is policemen here.
ANABEL; Dad i am the one that called them to arrest this good for nothing boy you brought from the village. (pointing at me).
C.SIMON; What happened, why did you arrest him. What did he do?.
ANABEL; He nearly killed James my boyfriend. You need to see what he did to him.
C.SIMON; Tobe, is that true?.
ME; No sir, he was the one that first attacked me. Look at what he did to me.(showing him my head) He wanted to brake my head, so i defended myself.
ANABEL; Keep quiet, you bloody liar. You will regret this.
C.SIMON; You should have inform me first before calling the police. Eerm, officer please release him okay. This is a family case, we will settle it please.
He brought out some naira notes from his pocket and handed them to the officer and i was release immediately, they drove away.
C.SIMON; Tobe, you can go back to your room and don’t fight again. Do you get me?.
ME; Yes sir, thank you.
ANABEL; Dad what did you just do now. I don’t like it o.
C.SIMON; I just did the right thing as a father, so don’t question me. He left her and went away.
I smiled to myself, Anabel saw me smiling and gave me the eyes of "we shall see". I laugh out loud and ran to my room. She stood giving me a devilish look, but i no send her. Who is the winner now, atleast i gave the boy the beating of his life.
